It’s back to school time! Even though I graduated from school a number of years ago, it is actually still how I, like I’m sure many of you, mark the passing of years. September offers a new beginning through a return to routine, and represents a fresh year ahead for Toronto, for our schools, for each student, and for Thinking Forward. And it’s a year that we hope to see not marred by bullying. Working toward the elimination of bullying is a major part of Thinking Forward’s commitment and of our initiatives.

Thinking Forward is an official partner of the Toronto District School Board, and the Board is putting the spotlight this month on the character quality of respect. And respect is a vital theme in our programming – if you follow the ‘what we do’ tab at the top of the site, you’ll see a component entitled ‘outward leadership’. Consider how aspects such as teamwork and collaboration would not be possible unless students viewed others (and themselves) as worthy of respect. It makes sense that viewing fellow students, and indeed all other humans, with respectfulness is a clear counter-remedy to bullying.

Our desire is to continue to foster respect in the lives of all the students we’re privileged to work with. And we can do that even better with your help: why not consider volunteering, donating, or spreading the word about the work that Thinking Forward is doing in Toronto schools? Together, let’s make a positive difference in the lives of children and youth this school year.
